News

August 6, 2008

The winners of my cover contest are as follows: First place, Buster Storm’s cover of “Room of Lanterns”; second place, Stacy Halter’s cover of “Room of Lanterns”; and third place, Ian of Unsigned Band Promotion’s incredibly unique cover of “I Hate Money”! I want to say thank you to everyone who entered. It was so neat to hear other people recreate my songs. Any of you are welcome to do it again anytime!

More information on the results will be posted very soon. I’d like to post a player with the covers that won here on my website. So, keep checking back or wait to hear from me in your newsletter (assuming you are signed up for my mailing list... if you are not signed up and would like to be, shoot me an email).

It was a great contest. THANK YOU to everyone involved!!

August 1, 2008

I have booked a show at Richard’s Cafe on August 12 at 7:00 p.m. with two fellow super-talented songwriters, Moriah Domby and Brittany Moses. We plan to play as the Back Porch Party Writers Round all around the Nashville area. It will be a phenomenal show--don’t miss it!

“My Maraschino” from Reasons & Ways is at the #4 spot on East Bank Radio’s Top 30 Chart this week. It made its way from #5 last week. Let’s hope it keeps climbing!

Now that the cover contest is over, another contest is on the way! I will have details posted in the next few weeks, but I will say that it involves art and filmmakers. :-)

    Until next time...

My 4th self-produced album, Reasons & Ways is now finished! Please contact me at alexisthompson@musician.org to find out how to get your own copy. It will be available on CD Baby shortly. Still waiting on the EP. Thank you for being patient!

Also, tracks from Reasons & Ways are being added to several radio stations in the next few weeks. I will keep all of you updated on which stations you can listen to hear them. I am also in the process of receiving some reviews. All of this will be posted as soon as it comes to me. THANK YOU for your support! More later...

My EP, I’m Not the Woman, is almost finished! The artwork is complete and the tracks are being mixed. After that, all that’s left is the mastering. It should only take a couple more weeks! If you’re interested in purchasing a hard copy, please email me at alexisthompson@musician.org. Otherwise, you may download the EP for free from this website!

A small ‘shows’ update: Sunday I played at Richard’s Cafe in Whites Creek (just a few minutes out of Nashville). Jack played some percussion for a few songs and Richard himself joined me with his harmonica on “Stupid Cowboy”. Check the Richard’s Cafe website for more photos.

Also, last Wednesday I joined The Blacklist Royals on their duet “Game of Love” at the Rioters & Rebels show held at Exit/In in Nashville. I got to play mandolin and sing with the boys--and I even got a kiss! These boys are a great band and they put on a hell of a show. Be sure to check out one of their shows. They tour like crazy, so you should be able to catch them wherever you are. You won’t be disappointed.

The duet I recorded with Nashville-based punkabilly band, The Blacklist Royals, is now accessible on iMeem. The song is called “Game of Love”.

The East Bank, an online Americana music publication based in east Nashville, has conducted a 10-Question interview with me and posted it in The East Bank Blog. The entire website is superb. Please, check it out.

Alexis has begun to work on a 6-song EP with good friend and producer, Ian Doerr. More than anything, the music will please the alt country and Americana crowds. Look for the EP to be released sometime in April/May and keep an eye on this website as well as Murfreesboro- and Nashville-based publications for reviews.

Entertainment writer, Paul Freeman, has reviewed and suggested Alexis Thompson’s music in an article about new music in the Palo Alto Daily News.

Shows

Due to the fact that I am doing a lot of work in the studio and that gas prices are ridiculous, I am playing a very limited number of shows this year. I will post shows as they come up. If you would like to receive the email newsletter and show reminders, please sign up for the mailing list by submitting your name, email address, and zip code to alexisthompson@musician.org. Thanks!

Team

Well, fact is I’m busy. I absolutely love to make music, but I’m not such a big fan of the self-promotion thing. I have some really great fans out there. So, if you’d like to help me out by being a member of my promotion team, shoot me an email. I can use all the help I can get! The more help I get from fans like you, the more time I have to spend writing songs for you to enjoy. Here are some of the benefits of being a member of the team:

*Knowing. That you are helping a musician you really enjoy keep making music (that you really enjoy).

*Experience. For your resume--I will write you an amazing letter of recommendation if you’re good at it.

*Free music. That’s right. You’ll get all of my albums in MP3 form for free.

*Promotion. If you are another artist, musician, or business, I will return the favor. I’ll tell my fans and friends about your services and advertise for you on my website!

*Power. I’m not going to tell you what to do. There will be very little guidelines. You’re in charge!

*Pride. You are passing the pop grass!
